How to use the Password Generator

  1. 1

Set the length with the slider.

  2. 2

Choose lowercase, uppercase, digits and symbols, and optionally avoid look-alike characters.

  3. 3

Copy a password. The meter shows its estimated entropy in bits.

What happens to your data

Passwords are generated on your device with crypto.getRandomValues. They are never transmitted or stored.

Frequently asked questions

How are passwords generated?

With crypto.getRandomValues and rejection sampling, so every character is equally likely. Each password includes at least one character from every set you choose.

Do you see or store my passwords?

No. They are created in your browser, never sent anywhere and never written to storage.

How long should a password be?

Aim for at least 80 bits of entropy; 16 or more random characters from all four sets is plenty. Use a password manager to store them.
